Low Score Result From Childs/Torrey Battle
by oscar acosta on 2005-07-19

Game Two of the return to Major League Wiffle Ball generated just as much if not more excitement than Game One. Both starting pitchers, Greg Childs and Keith Torrey, made their first starts in over a month. My first predictions would be that offense would dominate such a contest between men who need some experience to improve. I was wrong. I blame myself. After a few Parrot Bay and pineapple juices I start talking useless nonsense that only Yayo himself may understand. I was so sure, and my track record got to my head a bit. But it all makes sense now..... hindsight is always 20/20. For those of you who didn't watch you missed what is no doubt an American classic.

It was Tim Dunn and Mike Beland who backed Greg. Bryan Dunn and Bobby Hastings expressed their confidence in Keith. " Greg has had an off year" Bryan said in a blunt way. "If Keith has a loss at the end of six today well....... I'll eat that fresh pile of s*@$ Vinny (three season ticket holder) dropped in center field for dinner." What a statement to make! I'd imagine Mr. Dunn has tasted a s#@andwich before talking like that.

Pitching dominated. The strong talk before the game, in my opinion, made Keith a little tense. He would get two straight batters in the first and come out rough in the second. The first batter of the inning was offensive guru Mike Beland. A Torrey slider inside was what he was waiting for and he got it. This one was crushed. It left the park in such a hurry the rabid fans would not attempt to catch it. It gave Childs some room to work with. "I didn't feel like one run was sufficient enough" said Mike in between innings two and three. Beland put those words into action in the bottom of the third with his second off Torrey. This one man wrecking crew, who was single handedly carrying his team again had to take a curtain call. The fans love the guy.

Keith Torrey cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth with a solo shot of own. Childs however kept his composure and closed out the game with no other casualties. It was an unusual low scoring affair for a league filled with power hitters. In a related story, no numbers from League MVP Bryan Dunn. I tried to catch up with him after the game but he requested to have some alone time as his dinner... listed on the menu as "Dog Doodie Surprise" for only $4.95, was being microwaved. I don't think we'll here any more smack talk from our MVP haha. Gam e Three is on its way. Stayed tuned damn it!
